Energy is something that is easily spent and costly to fill up on. Finding healthy ways to get it helps when fuel and spirits are low.

People tend to have different energy levels. Some very high, some up and down, and some very low. On the low, tiresome days there are some things that can be done to naturally boost energy flow-exercise and good nutrition, two very important things. But, what more can be done aside from the obvious?

Volunteering and Acts of Kindness

They say that people who help other people are naturally given a high from the act of doing a fellow human being a good deed. According to an article by Susan Jeffers, Ph.D titled, “How to Get Out of a Slump” volunteering helps people to get out of themselves and reach a higher level, unlike the lower levels of negativity that they may be experiencing. Helping people can be formal (running a fundraiser for a church) or informal (helping a neighbor) depending on interest and time commitment.

Finding Inspiration and Passion

It is always beneficial to seek out things that are naturally inspiring and passionate. This includes hobbies, working, and interacting with people who are like-minded. Some examples of inspiration would be listening to a favorite singer and then unexpectedly taking up singing lessons no matter what age. Or deciding to cook up a timeless recipe that a family member handed down from generation to generation. Just as volunteering and random acts of kindness can give a boost, so can doing things that seem to fall in the area of “special interests” or “old dreams.”

Practicing Self Love

When times are tough, it’s always a good idea to practice self love. There are many people out there who may be alone (the elderly, singles, or the disabled) who just can't seem to find any love or breaks. In an Oprah.com article titled “ Reasons to Love and Appreciate Yourself ” from April 22, 2010, author and motivational speaker Mike Robbins says, “To be truly fulfilled in life and relationships, you have to find the love within you and give it to yourself. No other person, material possession or accomplishment can do it. It's up to you.” This seems to express it all.

So to create bursts of energy, make sure to incorporate service, passions, and self love into the routine. Thinking back to old pastimes can spark a new interest or bring an old one back to life. Helping people in need can bring out strengths, possibilities, and overall great feelings. The end result-increased energy!
